The emergency department is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.* (no patients will be registered in the emergency department after 1:30 p.m. on those days) Any changes will be posted on Nova Scotia Health’s Temporary Closure page: www.nshealth.ca/temporaryclosures.

The emergency room is on the main level of the hospital and to the left of the main entrance.

To access the mental health mobile crisis team call 902-429-8167 or toll-free at 1-888-429-8167. This is a 24 hour, seven days a week phone service to help you or your loved one cope with mental health and addiction challenges in the moment.

Visitors are welcome between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please check with nursing staff, if you want to visit outside of the standard visiting hours. 

*Learn more about NSHA's Family Presence Policy, which welcomes up to two people named by the patient to be their family or primary support person/people.

You MUST pay for parking at kiosk-machine inside the building, before returning to your car: 

1. Pay with cash, credit or debit at kiosk-machine inside the building
2. Take ticket, and go to your car 
3. At exit gate scan ticket —parking gate will open 

NOTE: Parking ticket stub is valid for only 20 minutes. This is time to get to your car and exit parking lot.

• Private room: Includes one bed and one washroom. You can find current rates here.
• Semi-private room: Includes two beds separated by curtains and one washroom. You can find current rates here.

Space in our private and semi-private rooms is limited. The sooner we have your insurance information the more likely we are to be able to accommodate your request.

When the booking clerk calls with your hospital admission date, let them know you are interested in a private or semi-private room.

When you are admitted, be sure to have your private insurance card with you and let the admitting clerk know you have requested a private or semi-private room.TV & Phone in your Room

TV Services

TV rental is available on most inpatient units except for the ALC Unit where there is a television in the common area. A credit card is required to rent a TV.  There are also TV’s available in all the inpatient common areas.

Phone Services

Bedside phones are available to for patients to rent. The cost is charged back to your home phone number.

All patients are provided with meals and snacks during their stay. If you follow a special diet or have food-related allergies or sensitivities, let us know when you arrive.

Full service hours: Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m
Partial service hours: Monday to Friday 2:30 p.m. to 5:25 p.m.
Weekends and holidays (partial service): 8 a.m.to 5:25 p.m.

Pastoral care is offered as part of its commitment to minister the needs of the total person. A small chapel is located on level 3. When using elevator A, turn right and walk down the hallway. It is the first door on your right. Nursing staff can help families or patients in contact a chaplain or clergy person of their choice. There are also two family rooms are available for families supporting a loved one receiving palliative care.

A bank machine is located in the lobby.

Soldiers' Memorial Hospital is a full service, community facility servicing a population of approximately 40,000. The hospital is located in Middleton, Nova Scotia.
